Bonjour ✩ ,
How are you?
Until few days ago, it was still really hot in Yokohama. But it’s now cooler so we can enjoy more easily going outside (but still being careful with the coronavirus).
Here are Méli et Malice news!
1.Collaboration with Taketo「竹藤」:
Taketo is a small arts and crafts shop which sells traditional hand crafts made in Aizu area.
It is in Aizu-Wakamatsu city, in the west part of Fukushima Prefecture.
The Taketo company had been established in 1624, but the store has been build 170 years ago, during the Edo period.
Taketo has a rich and long history, it’s also the last Edo commercial building still remaining in Aizu-Wakamatsu.
I was truly honored and very happy to have the chance to make this collaboration with them.
According to their wishes, I drew Akabeko carrying bamboo on a tumbrel, Taketo as background.
During Edo period, bamboo was not found in the Aizu region, so it was necessary to bring bamboo from Shirakawa city (south-central Fukushima). The bamboo logs were transported in a tumbrel hauled by a cow.
This drawing has been used as a postcard and a washi paper sticker.
You can buy them on Méli et Malice’s website as well as at Taketo’s store.
If you have the opportunity to go to Aizu, I warmly recommend that you to stop at Taketo and having a wonderful time in this magnificent building!

There is also a terrace to have a wonderful time!
For everyone’s safety, a disinfectant gel will be available and we’re all invited to wear a mask.
The market will be open from 9h to 17h.
It’s about 15 minutes by walk from Shibuya station, 10 minutes from Yoyogi-koen station.
The address is : 38-13 Hill Crest, apt 101, Kamiyamacho, Shibuya-ku
